H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed, an illustrious Nigerian statesman, was born on October 5, 1958, in Duguri Town, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. His educational journey began at Duguri Primary School, Bauchi, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1971. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Bauchi, completing his WASCE in 1976. In pursuit of higher education, he attended the North-East College of Art and Science from 1977 to 1979 for his Advanced Level Certificate. H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language.

Dedicated to continuous learning, H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed enhanced his professional competencies through several capacity-building programs. In 1988, he attended a general management course at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON). He further broadened his expertise in 1997 with a certificate from the Institute of Purchase & Supplies in Lagos.

H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed began his career as a journalist, serving as News Editor for The Mirage Newspaper in Jos from 1982 to 1983. He later worked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as a News Reporter and subsequently became the State Editor for The Democrat Newspaper in Benue from 1983 to 1984. His transition into public service began in 1984 when he was appointed as an Administrative Officer in the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abuja.

Over the years, H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed held several pivotal roles in the civil service. These include Principal Administrative Officer in the Cabinet Secretariat of the Presidency (1994), Chief Supplies Officer at the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals (1995–1997), and Assistant Director at the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel (1997–1999). By 1999, he became Deputy Director and Special Assistant to the Honorable Minister of Transport, a position he held until 2003. Notably, he served as Director of Administration for the Nigerian Railway Corporation in 2003 and later as Director of Administration and Supplies at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed’s political career began with his election as Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District on April 21, 2007. During his tenure, he served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Secretary of the Northern Senators Forum, and member of several committees, including Communications, Finance, Public Accounts, Rules and Business, Environment, and Labour and Productivity. His legislative contributions earned him respect and recognition. In 2010, he was appointed as the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory by President Goodluck Jonathan, marking the pinnacle of his career in public service.

Throughout his career, H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed demonstrated his administrative acumen by serving on various panels and committees, such as the Panel of Inquiry into illegal acquisitions of Nigerian citizenship, the Civil Service Reform Implementation Committee, and the Ministerial Tenders Board in the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel. His leadership extended to key ad-hoc duties, including serving as Secretary for the Administrative Panel on the Re-organization of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps in 1985 and the Committee on Nigerian Citizenship Matters in 1988.

An advocate for continuous development, H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed attended numerous seminars and workshops, earning certificates in personnel budget implementation and program execution. His extensive contributions to governance reflect his unwavering commitment to excellence, patriotism, and selflessness.

Outside his professional life, H.E. Senator Bala Mohammed enjoys reading, writing, and strolling. His illustrious career stands as a testament to his dedication to the unity and progress of Nigeria, with his tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory serving as a fitting recognition of his hard work and exceptional service to the nation.
