Bauchi targets 1.5m animals for vaccination

Bauchi State Governor, HE Bala Mohammed, has launched the 2025 annual livestock vaccination exercise in Itas/Gadau local government area of the state.

The governor explained that the exercise was aimed to enhance livestock production and food security in the state by targeting at least 1.5 million animals across the 20 local government areas.

According to him, the vaccination campaign includes the procurement of over 10,000 doses of rabies vaccines in response to recent cases of animal bites involving dogs and other animals to promote a healthy livestock population and encourage livestock farming to boost the state’s economy.

Governor Bala, noted that the state is a leading in livestock population, and attributed the trend to the influx of Fulani cattle breeders from conflict-affected areas. He announced plans to construct 100 dams along cattle routes to guarantee access to water and foster harmonious relationships between farmers and herders.

He also announced the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development to address challenges faced by herders and farmers, often resulting in violent clashes.

He said his government plans to partner with donor partners and non-governmental organizations to establish semi earth dams and drive livestock development.

The Emir of Katagum, Alh Umar Faruq II, commended the governor’s efforts in supporting all sections of society.
